US House Passes the SAVE Act

Republicans and a handful of Democrats voted to ensure that foreign nationals will not be voting in American elections. With a vote of 221 to 198, the U.S. House passed HR 8281, also known as the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act.

Sponsored in the House by Rep. Chip Roy, the SAVE Act will require proof of citizenship for all registering voters in federal elections, ensuring that non-citizens will not have influence over legislative decisions.

It has never been more important than right now to safeguard American elections. Over the last four years, the Southern Border has been rendered defenseless, and over ten million non-citizens have poured into the nation. That’s millions of people who could be able to participate in our elections.

The Left’s primary argument is that the Act is “unnecessary” and will strain state voting systems. They claim that non-citizens aren’t voting or registering to vote in elections, even though this has been continuously debunked

In fact, federal government offices like Health and Human Services are directed to provide voter registration cards to everyone, regardless of citizenship status. If non-citizens apply for government assistance, they are given a voter registration card. They may complete the card thinking it is required to approve their application.

Without the requirement to verify citizenship prior to registration, millions of people could be illegally registered through this process and nefarious voter registration drives that target non-citizens.

Not only does this result in foreign nationals choosing our representatives, these illegal registrations are also a huge opportunity for ballot harvesting. If the non-citizens are unlikely to show up to vote, harvesting operatives will simply vote for them through the mail-in ballot process. In states with same-day registration or without voter ID laws, it is even easier to cast votes in their names.

The SAVE Act is now in the hands of the Senate with Sen. Mike Lee leading the charge. The Biden Administration has released a statement saying that they oppose the SAVE Act and Biden will likely veto the bill if it reaches his desk. The Senate, however, can override his veto with a 2/3rds majority vote. This should be an easy bipartisan bill. The vast majority of Americans do not want non-citizens voting in our elections.

The SAVE Act is one of the most important pieces of legislation to be seen in the 118th Congress. Contact Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn and urge them to support this bill and defend election integrity.
